UCSF Harvests Human Fetal Body Parts

On June 14th and June 25th 2021, Pro-Life San Francisco received documents from the University of California, San Francisco. Requested under the California Public Records Act, these records shed light on the aborted fetal tissue research projects taking place within the university.

The full version of these procurement logs are available here: Attachment 1 | Attachment 2

Where It All Began

On July 3, 2019, Pro-Life San Francisco submitted a public records request with UCSF to obtain insight into the university’s abortion training program, the Ryan Residency.

Multiple medical journal articles confirm researchers at UCSF utilized the remains of healthy human fetuses up to 24 weeks gestation supplied by the Women’s Options Center, the publicly funded late-term abortion facility at UCSF’s Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital.

According to some of the recently obtained documents, UCSF students are fully informed of the probability of live birth scenarios. More on this topic can be found at prolifesf.com/ucsf.

After their request (Public Records Act 019-090) was acknowledged on July 17, 2019, it was ignored by the university until Summer of 2020 when Pro-Life San Francisco retained legal counsel.

In a follow up request dated August 24, 2020, Pro-Life San Francisco specifically asked for the full text of active UCSF fetal tissue research contracts with the National Institutes of Health and for complete fetal tissue logs: documents showing the scope and scale of their fetal tissue operations. The limited documents that have been shared reveal the horrors of these projects. Pro-Life San Francisco continues to await all documents requested under Public Records Act 020-107.

Consent Forms And Tissue Logs

In Spring of 2021, Pro-Life San Francisco received copies of the Women’s Options Center consent forms for fetal tissue donation which forces patients to specifically opt out in order to maximize their supply of baby organs.

The emails and redacted attachments at the top of this page were sent some weeks later, showing the most recent collections of fetal remains at UCSF’s abortion facilities. These are just partial records. Pro-Life San Francisco intends to obtain clear and complete information and pursue an end to this brutal human rights violation. All institutions overseeing UCSF’s operations have a responsibility to stop this exploitive system that creates an artificial dependency on aborted remains. The continued partnership between UCSF’s abortion providers and laboratories, as well as the ongoing supply of fetal remains, must come to an end.

Activism

Pro-Life San Francisco and concerned citizens from across the political and ideological spectrum have been demanding transparency from the University of California Board of Regents for over two years. Due to continued rebuffing from the UC Regents, activists have taken this to the streets, resulting in a number of unlawful arrests — including our founder, Terrisa Bukovinac — for engaging in first amendment protected activity on public property. Together with Survivors and other pro-life organizations, Pro-Life San Francisco activists will not stop raising their voices until change is brought to the university.
